“We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out.” -Ray Bradbury
For as long as I can remember, I have spent each summer break immersed in books. I would spend hours on our back porch and delve into page after page, devouring anything that came into my grasp.
For all those years I was filling up. My high school and college years have been an adventure in honing my voice, and now I find myself challenged in a new way to pour out.
Once I finish my junior year, I will have a little less than a month before I start my editorial internship at a brokerage firm. These 28 days will be like a miniature summer break for me–my last one in my academic career–and I intend to make the best of it. To keep my voice in tune, starting on Wednesday, May 8, I will write and publish something every day.
I have no way to predict what I will come up with or whether anything I produce will even be worth reading to anyone in particular. Nevertheless, I will relish the last “summer” I spend freely with words. And this time, the voice will be my own.
